Grandma Gai started our Valentines a day early with a Fondue Party at her house on Sunday night. There may or may not have been some double dipping going on...I guess we are all family right? :) After dinner we went around and chose someone to tell what we loved about them. Addie of course chose Grandpa and it made his night! She loves him so much.
Our Valentine breakfast included heart shaped pancakes with a "squeeze and a kiss" (Squeeze It drinks and Hershey Kisses.) After the boys went to school I packed a lunch and we (us girls) met Gavin at the park for lunch. It was so fun to spread a blanket out on the lawn and eat lunch with my sweethearts. Gavin even brought us a yummy sugar cookie from one of his customers. Carlee laid in the sun while Gavin pushed Addie on the swing. It was great.
I don't know what it is about Valentines Day but I always get disappointed. I tell Gavin I don't want anything, then deep down I really do want something but he doesn't think I do. Then I get mad, because he didn't get me anything, when I told him not to... see where I am going with this, the viscous cycle of Valentines Day! This year I decided I was going to change it. A week before we (mostly I) decided we would only spend $10 on our gifts for each other. My reasoning behind the $10 was for Mother's Day last year Preston gave me a spatula from Lin's and it was under $10. That spatula has been the best gift, I think I use it daily. So, the limit was $10 and the shopping began!
I decided to make my gift and it is pictured above. The kids loved helping me make it and keeping the secret from Gav. I loved watching him read it. I love him for so many reasons.
Gav gave me Invisashield for my new iPhone. (The iPhone I stayed up until 2 am to order from Verizon just to make sure I got one. I am crazy, I know. I belong to the Apple cult and I like it! ;)) Great gift! I loved it!
We both spent a little more than $10.00 but didn't pass $30.00 and with my budgeting skills I call that success!
After the fun red and white pasta dinner I made, we went and delivered Valentine's. My kids LOVE this! A day you can doorbell ditch and not get in trouble for it! Score!! Why doesn't anyone do this anymore? Next year I am calling for a Valentine movement... don't worry about taking fancy treats or homemade Valentines, just knock on someones door leave a Hershey Kiss and run like the wind. There is just nothing quite like it! The looks on my kids faces were priceless. Good Times!!
All in all Valentines this year was a success! I loved love day! :)
